  “It’s your ranch,” she reminded him. “It always has been.”

  “And you’re my heart.” He drew her to him, bringing her lips to his as he stared up at her, his gaze filled with all the emotion she had feared she would never see in them.

  “I love you, Brenna Laine,” he whispered against her lips.

  “And I love you, Jason Samuels,” she whispered back. “I will always ensure you know you’re my one.”

  And to that he had to smile. A smile that whispered against her lips, filled with love, with happiness and with joy.

  “My one,” he repeated softly. “That was the promise the first Jason Samuels gave his Cheyenne princess when he married her.”

  “Poppa Jason told me that story,” she reminded him. “And I’ve always remembered it. You’re my one, Jase. And you always will be.”

  “As you’re mine,” he promised her. “My one, my only.”

  The kiss they shared affirmed the promise, locked it in their hearts and sealed it in their souls.

  The One. The first, the last, the only one the other could love. The keeper of the heart, the keeper of the love—but more importantly, the one who would forever cherish, protect and nurture that most fragile yet strongest of bonds.
